Kenyan Blogger Robert Alai Charged with Treason

On June 14th, a vehicle carrying security officers in Wajir County ran over an improvised explosive device (IED), killing the officers who were pursuing Al-Shabaab militants.

The militants had attacked a village in Konton and kidnapped three Kenya Police Reservists.

Kenyan blogger Robert Alai was arraigned in court on Tuesday, charged with two counts of treachery and disclosure of information contrary to the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Alai was accused of sharing the gory photos of the slain police officers on social media with the intent to help Al-Shabaab.

Appearing before Milimani Court Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, Alai denied the charges and was freed on a bond of Sh500,000 with an alternative cash bail of Sh300,000.
