On July 1, 2019, Lamu West Member of Parliament Stanley Muthama was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after being trailed by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
He was arraigned in court on Monday, where he faced 13 charges of tax evasion, including failing to remit taxes amounting to Sh487 million from his businesses operated under a company named Stansha Limited.
Appearing before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obulutsa, MP Muthama pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on Sh500,000 cash bail or Sh3 million bond.
