On July 2, 2019, Crystal Palace expressed outrage over Arsenal's attempt to sign Ivory Coast winger Wilfried Zaha.
The Gunners offered £40m for the 26-year-old winger, a sum that Palace deemed unacceptable.
Palace values Zaha at around £80m, a significantly higher fee than the £50m Manchester United paid for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a 21-year-old right-back with limited experience.
Wan-Bissaka and Zaha have different profiles, with Zaha being a full international with vast experience.
Palace signed a new five-year contract with Zaha last summer, recognizing his importance to the team and club, making him the highest-paid player in Palace history.
The agreement was reached on the basis that Palace had not received any credible offers at the time, and they would let Zaha leave if the situation changed in the future.
However, Palace's stance on Zaha's departure has not altered, and they will only sanction his exit if the price is right.
A key issue for Palace is the sell-on clause inserted into Zaha's contract when he returned to south London from Manchester United for around £6m in 2015, which entitles the Red Devils to 25% of any profit if Zaha exits Selhurst Park.
