On July 2, 2019, a Kenyan man believed to be a member of the Al-Shabaab terror group was arrested in the Philippines.
The suspect, identified as Cholo Abdi Abdullah, was apprehended at Rasca Hotel in Iba, Zambales, a town located northwest of the country.
According to Major General Amador Corpuz, Director of the Criminal Investigations and Detection Group (CIDG), Abdullah was taken into custody after a thorough investigation.
Seized from the suspect were a 9-mm pistol, magazine and ammunition, one unit of an improvised explosive device, a hand grenade, and other bomb-making components, as reported by the Philippines Police.
Abdullah, who was studying to be a pilot at All Asia Aviation Academy, had also been undertaking research on different aviation threats.
Notably, Abdullah had pledged his allegiance to the Al-Shabaab militia group in 2012 and had been actively involved in its activities in the region.
