On July 2, 2019, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua signed the county's Sh12 billion budget, urging the Chief Justice David Maraga to introduce time limits on corruption cases.
Mutua, who is also the leader of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, emphasized that graft cases should not drag on for too long, citing the need for swift justice to prevent the loss of taxpayers' money to corruption cartels.
Speaking outside his office, Mutua stated, 'Most of the money eaten is from the national government and we have to stop it through systems and ensure the culprits are arrested and prosecuted.'
He also commended the County Assembly for passing a 'reasonable' budget that would propel the county's development agenda and boost economic growth.
However, Mutua cautioned that revenue collection must be intensified and the budget implemented prudently to ensure posterity.
