On July 1, 2019, Bob Collymore, the CEO of Safaricom, passed away at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer. He died at his home in Nairobi.

According to reports, his body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home, where it was later cremated in a private function at the Kariokor crematorium. Only family and close friends were allowed to attend.

Collymore's decision to opt for cremation marks a shift in traditional burial practices in Kenya, where a growing number of prominent individuals are choosing this option.

His family, including wife Wambui Kamiru and four children, are said to be grieving his loss. A memorial service is planned for later this week, as announced by Safaricom chairman Nicholas Ng'ang'a.
