Published on July 2, 2019, Harambee Stars' 3-0 defeat to Senegal in their last Africa Cup of Nations Group C clash dented the team's chances of progressing to the next round of the competition.

Kenya finished third in the group with three points, securing their only victory of the tournament against neighbours Tanzania.

The team's fortunes had been revived after a win against Tanzania, but a heartbreaking 3-0 defeat to Senegal, courtesy of Sadio Mane's second-half strike and Ismaila Sarr's thunderbolt, left qualification out of their hands.

With a third-place finish in the group, Kenya will now rely on results in Tuesday's Group E and F matches to progress to the last 16.

The top two teams from each group (A-F) will earn automatic qualification, while the four best third-placed teams will also progress.

Kenya's chances of qualifying now hinge on a number of results, including Ghana's match against Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon's match against Benin in Group F.

Should Mauritania and Angola win, Kenya will be eliminated, regardless of the outcome of their own match.

Meanwhile, Kenya face the prospect of playing hosts Egypt should they make it through to the next round.
