On June 28, 2019, the Eritrean Embassy in Kenya celebrated the 28th Independence Day anniversary in Nairobi, Kenya, with a ceremony attended by high-level officials, diplomats, and representatives of regional and international organizations.

Ambassador Beyene Russom of Eritrea to Kenya expressed gratitude to the participants and gave a briefing on the Eritrean people's struggle and sacrifices over the last 50 years.

He noted that the new era of peace and friendship in the region, as well as the hopeful prospects, were outcomes of the Eritrean people's resilience and steadfastness.

Ambassador Russom called for international support in the effort to establish a peaceful Horn of Africa, citing diplomatic cooperation between Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti, South Sudan, and Sudan.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of Kenya, Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba noted the warm and friendly strategic partnership between Kenya and Eritrea, citing the working visits by President Isaias Afwerki and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mr. Ababu underlined the significance of the agreement between Eritrea and Ethiopia in developing a peaceful and stable region, which would also strengthen the Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
