Robert Alai, a prominent Kenyan blogger, has been charged with two counts of treachery and disclosure of information. The charges stem from an incident on June 17, 2019, where Alai shared a photo of deceased police officers on WhatsApp, allegedly with the intent to help al Shabaab.

According to the prosecution, Alai's actions were seen as an attempt to interfere with the maintenance of order in Kenya. In the second count, Alai is accused of disclosing information with a photograph of deceased police officers to the public through Twitter, which may have prejudiced an ongoing investigation.

On Tuesday, Alai denied all the charges before Milimani court Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi. His advocate, Paul Mwite, pleaded for leniency on his behalf.

The prosecution did not object to Alai's release on a Ksh. 500,000 bond, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh. 300,000. The case will be mentioned on July 16, 2019.
