On 1 July 2019, Kenya's national team, the Stars, faced off against Senegal's Teranga Lions in a Group C match at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo. The match ended in a 3-0 victory for Senegal, with the Lions scoring three goals in a span of 14 minutes.

Coach Sebastien Migne expressed his team's disappointment, stating, "We were not so far but not so close." He acknowledged that the team had created difficulties for Senegal in the first 60 minutes of the match but ultimately made mistakes that were punished.

Senegal's goals were scored by Ismaila Sarr in the 62nd minute and Sadio Mane in the 71st and 76th minutes. Mane's second goal was a penalty kick.

Despite the loss, Migne took some positives from the match, citing the experience gained by young players like Bernard Ochieng and John Avire. He also referenced Uganda's 2017 African finals performance, where they failed to win any matches but returned two years later to make it to the round of 16.

Kenya still has a chance to advance to the round of 16 if results from the final round of matches in Groups E and F on 3 July 2019 go in their favor.
