On July 3, 2019, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) announced that it was ready to press charges against Starehe MP Charles Njagua, also known as Jaguar.

The charges stem from alleged xenophobic remarks made by Jaguar, which drew strong reactions from Tanzania, including a summons for Kenya's High Commissioner to Dar es Salaam.

According to a statement on the ODPP website, the probe into Jaguar's remarks was complete.

On June 28, 2019, the court granted the prosecution three working days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays, to secure witnesses after the ODPP requested that Jaguar be detained for 14 days to allow for further investigations.

On June 26, 2019, Jaguar was arrested outside Parliament buildings, and detectives have since confiscated his mobile phone for forensic examination.

The investigating team also wrote to the Communications Authority (CA) and media houses asking to be provided with recordings of the comments that he made on the fateful day.
