Nokia 1, the entry-level smartphone from HMD Global, has finally received the Android 9 Pie (Go edition) upgrade, marking the end of a two-year journey to bring the latest software to the entire Nokia smartphone portfolio.
According to Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, this upgrade is a significant milestone in the company's promise to deliver a phone that will keep getting better over time through the latest experiences and always being up-to-date.
“With Nokia 1 getting its very own slice of Pie, we now have a full portfolio of Nokia phones on Android 9 Pie, starting at just sub $80,” Sarvikas said. “This changes the industry paradigm – for too long consumers have had to accept older OS versions as the norm on entry-level smartphones.”
As part of the upgrade, Nokia 1 users will enjoy a range of new apps from Google, including Google Go, Google Maps Go, YouTube Go, and Google Assistant for Android (Go edition), designed to run faster while consuming less data.
With fewer pre-installed apps and a lighter design, Nokia 1 users will get 2x more available storage out of the box, creating more space while significantly improving performance.
Over the past two years, Nokia phones have received over 300 security updates altogether and have successfully upgraded handsets to the latest OS twice as fast as competitors.
