On July 2, 2019, China rebuked US President Donald Trump for his comments on Hong Kong protesters, calling them a 'gross interference' in the city's affairs.
Trump had stated that protesters who stormed the Hong Kong legislature wanted democracy for the financial hub.
China's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang responded by saying the United States should not support those engaged in violence and breaking the law.
