On July 2, 2019, Nairobi detectives made a significant breakthrough in the fight against child trafficking by rescuing nine minors from Soweto slums in Nairobi.
The minors, aged 12 to 17 years, were confined in rooms and may have been subjected to harsh living conditions, according to the detectives.
Three suspects, including an 80-year-old woman, were arrested in the process, and the children are now safe.
The rescue operation was sparked by the disappearance of a 17-year-old student from Soweto, whose search led detectives to the house where the children were found packed in a room.
Investigators believe that the children were waiting to be trafficked, and the suspects are currently in lawful custody.
