On July 1, 2019, Bob Collymore, the former CEO of Safaricom, passed away at his home in Nairobi at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer.
According to his family, Collymore's wish was to be cremated, and they have respected his wishes by taking him to the Hindu Shamsan Bhumi Crematorium in Kariokor.
Only family members and close friends have been allowed at the crematorium, as per the family's request.
The family chose Kariokor for the cremation because it takes a few hours to complete the process, unlike Lang'ata, which takes over 15 hours.
Collymore's cremation is a testament to his desire to be remembered in a unique and personal way.
Other prominent Kenyans who have been cremated include Kenneth Matiba, Wangari Maathai, and Jeremiah Kiereini.
