July 2, 2019 - Fastjet Plc, a struggling low-cost African airline, announced that its Chief Executive Officer Nico Bezuidenhout will step down after three years at the helm.

Bezuidenhout, who previously held the top boss role at Mango Airlines for nearly a decade, will rejoin the business he founded.

Mark Hurst, Fastjet's deputy group chief executive officer, will lead the airline until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Fastjet, which operates in South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, has faced financial struggles, including a dwindling cash pile. The airline was saved from going under after striking a deal to raise funds late last year.

Bezuidenhout had previously told Reuters that Fastjet expects to be profitable on an underlying basis in 2019.
