On his last days, Bob Collymore, the late Safaricom CEO, expressed his gratitude to his wife Wambui Kamiru and their children, saying he would be lucky to have three more days. He urged his friends to stand by Wambui, as reported by Radio Africa CEO Patrick Quarcoo, a member of the Boys Club with Collymore.
Wambui Kamiru stood by Collymore throughout his battle with blood cancer, even traveling to London for nine months to be with him. In a 2018 interview, Collymore praised Wambui, saying she was a 'fantastic lady' who made a big sacrifice for him.
Collymore and Wambui met in 2011 during a fundraiser for survivors of the Loreto Convent Msongari school bus crash. They got married in 2016 in a simple ceremony that caught the attention of many Kenyans.
Wambui responded to critics of their relationship with a Facebook post, saying that their marriage had sparked conversations about tribalism and the importance of unity in Kenya.
