On a somber note, the Kenyan business community bids farewell to Bob Collymore, the former CEO of Safaricom, who passed away on Monday morning after a long battle with cancer.
Collymore's journey with cancer began in 2017 when he traveled to the UK for treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He returned to Kenya in July 2018, resuming his duties at Safaricom.
Despite his efforts to fight the disease, Collymore's condition worsened, and he eventually succumbed to the illness. His death serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by many Kenyans who struggle to access quality healthcare due to its high cost.
As Collymore reflected on his experience, he often wondered about the plight of poor Kenyans who suffer from similar illnesses, highlighting the need for more accessible and affordable healthcare options in the country.
Today, Collymore will be laid to rest in a private ceremony, a testament to the respect and admiration he earned during his tenure at Safaricom.
