On July 2, 2019, Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi put on a show-stopping performance against Senegal in their Group C encounter. Despite ultimately conceding two goals, Matasi's heroics kept his team in the game for at least the first 60 minutes.

One of the most notable moments of the match came when Matasi dove to hold onto Senegal forward Sadio Mane's penalty kick in the 27th minute. He also bravely charged out to deny Idrissa Gueye at near point-blank range and showed impressive agility to leap and scoop away Rennes striker Ismaila Sarr's beautiful header.

Matasi revealed the secret behind his successful penalty kick stop, saying, "The moment he put the ball down and I looked in his eyes I knew where he was going to hit the ball and I saved it. Even the second penalty, the way he stood I knew which direction he was going to place the ball. You saw, I dived in the right direction but could not reach the ball."
