July 2, 2019 - Safaricom has announced the appointment of Michael Joseph as its interim Chief Executive Officer following the passing of Bob Collymore.
Joseph, a former CEO of Safaricom and current Chairman of Kenya Airways, will take over the reins immediately, as resolved by the company's Board of Directors in a Special Meeting.
Collymore, who had been CEO since 2010, passed away on Monday at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer. His funeral will be a private family event, followed by a memorial service later in the week.
Under Collymore's leadership, Safaricom underwent significant transformation, not only as the region's largest telco but also in its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, which positively impacted the lives of many less privileged Kenyans.
Joseph's appointment as interim CEO is seen as a testament to his experience and leadership skills, which will be crucial in navigating the company through this challenging period.
