On July 1, 2019, a brazen heist took place at the Dago PAG Church in Kiboswa, Kisumu County, where armed thugs stormed the premises and made off with Ksh.1.6 million meant for elderly persons.

According to Kisumu West sub-county police boss Eddy Kangi, the gangsters shot in the air to disperse the elderly people who were in line to receive the cash before making their escape.

Administration Police officers manning a nearby post responded to the scene but the thugs fled the area using motorbikes.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with three offices from the Department of Social Services being held for questioning.

Police have also acknowledged that the officers manning the post should have alerted them for protection of the large sum of cash, but failed to do so.

A manhunt for the actual thugs is still underway.
