Uganda Coach Prefers Senegal Over Kenya in AFCON 2019

Published on July 1, 2019, the Uganda national team head coach Sebastien Desabre has taken a thinly veiled swipe at Kenya by stating that he prefers to play Senegal in the round of 16 at the ongoing African Cup of Nations.

Uganda made it to the knockout phase despite going down 2-0 to Egypt in their final group A match on Sunday night in Cairo, Egypt.

When asked about the side he prefers to meet in the round of 16, the Frenchman said he would rather meet Senegal, a side he believes will challenge his team.

"We don’t know who to play but we are in the path that has teams like Senegal and Kenya. I prefer we face Senegal to give us a chance to play another strong team," he said.

Desabre further downplayed Dennis Onyango’s injury worries, despite the shot-stopper being taken off with an injury in the second half.

Meanwhile, after meeting the federation’s target of securing a round of 16 ticket, Desabre says the target is to progress beyond the first knockout phase.
