Kenya's government has taken a tough stance against betting firms, with 19 entities losing their licenses following a rigorous vetting process.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i had hinted two days prior that most betting firms would face similar consequences, citing non-payment of taxes and the negative impact of gambling on the youth.
Speaking in Kisii on Saturday, Matiang'i stated, "We cannot be a gambling nation. We must live an honest life. Many youth end up frustrated when they fail in gambling and end up committing suicide."
The ministry will continue to regulate the gaming industry, with a focus on ensuring compliance with operational requirements and conducting regular vetting of licenses.
Any firm found non-compliant will be barred from operating in the country, and licenses will undergo a quarterly review to determine their level of compliance.
