On July 1, 2019, a white rhino was brutally killed and its horns chopped off at Lake Nakuru National Park, sparking concerns over the safety of wildlife in the area.

According to a close source, the rhino was killed by suspected poachers during a heavy downpour, and the perpetrators made off with the horns.

However, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Assistant Director Central Rift region Mr. Aggrey Maumo denied the claims, stating, 'There is no such incidence, but should there be any issue, I will get back.'

Notably, this incident occurred months after 145 buffaloes died of anthrax within the park, and just a year after a 12-year-old young male black rhino was killed at the park.
