Kenya's national football team, Stars, is facing a major challenge ahead of their do-or-die match against Senegal on July 1, 2019. The team has suffered a significant blow with the news that defender Erick 'Marcelo' Ouma has been ruled out with an injury.

Ouma, who can also play on the left flank as a winger, picked up the injury in training on Saturday, June 29, 2019. He did not train with the rest of the squad in Cairo on Sunday, June 30, 2019, as the team prepared for the crucial tie.

A source from the Stars' camp has confirmed that Ouma suffered an ankle injury, which has left head coach Sebastien Migne with a major selection headache. The team has been grappling with defensive concerns since the start of the tournament.

However, the team will be buoyed by the return of defensive duo Joash Onyango and Philemon Otieno, who have both trained with the rest of the squad and could be in contention for a starting role against Senegal.

Stars need to avoid defeat against Senegal to secure a round of 16 ticket as they sit third in the group with 3 points.
