On July 1, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed South Sudan President Salva Kiir on a two-day state visit to Kenya.

During the visit, Uhuru pledged to support Kiir and announced that Kenya would allocate 10 acres of land at Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD) for South Sudan to set up a container depot.

This move is aimed at bolstering ties between Nairobi and Juba and easing the movement of goods between the two countries.

Kenya had previously offered Uganda land in Naivasha to set up a dry port in March 2018.

Uhuru said, "To ease the movement of goods to South Sudan, the government has responded to the request by South Sudan to set aside 10 acres."

The two leaders are set to discuss issues such as bolstering business, peace, and diplomatic relations between Nairobi and Juba.

Peace in South Sudan has been a major concern to Uhuru, who has been at the forefront in attempts at finding a lasting solution.
