July 1, 2019 - Safaricom is mourning the loss of its CEO, Bob Collymore, who passed away early Monday morning after a long battle with cancer.

According to Safaricom Board Chairman Nicholas Ng'ang'a, Collymore will be cremated on Tuesday, with the ceremony limited to family members.

A public memorial service will be held in honour of the late Collymore during the course of the week, with the Board Chair stating that it will be held on Thursday or Friday.

Ng'ang'a also announced that he will convene a meeting with the rest of the Safaricom PLC board members within the next 24 hours to chart a way forward for the company.

He emphasized that the Board is fully behind the management left behind by Collymore until such a time that they will announce his successor.

Collymore, who leaves behind a wife and four children, was a key figure in Safaricom's expansion plans, including its vision to spread its wings across the continent, starting with Ethiopia.
