The national women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, will depart for Cairo, Egypt, this Friday to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations Women's Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place from July 7th to 15th.
Kenya aims to win its 10th African title, having lost to Cameroon in the 2017 final. The team has been training at Kasarani Gymnasium for over two months under the guidance of Italian coach Shaleen Ramdoo, seconded by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).
Kenya's experienced players, including Mercy Moim, Jane Wacu, Janet Wanja, and Praxides Khadambi, who helped the country win three consecutive titles between 2011 and 2015, will be key to the team's success in Egypt.
Eight countries, including DR Congo, Botswana, hosts Egypt, Lesotho, Cameroon, and Morocco, have confirmed their participation in the 12-nation championship, with the winner and first runner-up securing spots in the Japan 2020 world championship.
Two of the squad members are relatively new to international competition, seeking to gain valuable experience on the global stage.
