Spain's national under-21 football team secured a fifth European Under-21 Championship title, matching the record of hosts Italy, with a 2-1 win over Germany on Sunday, July 1, 2019.

The Spaniards had previously suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Germans in the 2017 final, but dominated this year's showpiece at the Stadio Friuli.

Goals from Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo proved decisive for Spain, with Ruiz scoring after eight minutes with a low shot into the corner and Olmo getting the second in the 69th minute by dinking the ball over keeper Alexander Nuebel.

Despite a late consolation goal from Nadiem Amiri for the Germans, Spain held on to celebrate their title win.
