On July 6, 2021, Dickson Njanja Mararo, a suspect accused of shooting three people, appeared at the Milimani court. The incident occurred last Friday at Quivers Lounge along Thika Road, where two police officers and a woman were injured.

Mararo, who surrendered to police on Monday, spent the night in custody awaiting the ruling of Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul on whether he would be detained for two weeks. State Prosecutor Eveline Onunga told the court that investigators needed 14 days to review CCTV footage, record witness statements, and conduct an identification parade.

“It is worth noting that one of the victims is still in critical condition and the investigators have not concluded their investigation, which will lead to him being charged with attempted murder,” said Onunga.

According to the investigator, one of the police officers, Lawrence Muturi, was shot in the arm and discharged after treatment, while the waitress, Felistas Nzisa, was shot in the abdomen and admitted to the hospital. Another officer, Festus Musyoka, was shot in the neck and remains in critical condition.

Lawyer Dan Maanzo, representing the victim, supported the application to detain Mararo, arguing that doctors were yet to fully ascertain the medical status of the police officer. However, lawyer Cliff Ombeta, representing Mararo, argued that there was no justification to detain him for 14 days.

The magistrate is scheduled to rule on July 7, 2021, on the application to detain Mararo for two weeks.
