On 1 July 2019, President Salva Kiir of South Sudan began a two-day state visit to Kenya, where he was warmly received by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi.

As part of the official welcome, President Kiir was accorded a 21-gun salute, a gesture of respect and friendship between the two nations.

During the formal welcome ceremonies, President Kiir inspected a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Kenya Army, accompanied by the playing of the national anthems of Kenya, South Sudan, and the East African Community.

The two leaders held one-on-one talks, discussing matters of mutual interest before leading their respective national delegations in bilateral talks.

Key issues on the agenda include trade and the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in South Sudan, a matter of great concern to President Kenyatta, who has been actively involved in finding a lasting solution to the instability in the East African country.

President Kiir's visit is expected to strengthen ties between the two nations and foster cooperation in various areas of mutual benefit.

As part of the visit, the two Heads of State will address a joint press conference at State House, providing an opportunity for the media to engage with them on the key issues discussed during the visit.
