July 1, 2019 - Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has passed away at his Nairobi home after a long battle with cancer.

Collymore, a Guyanese-born British businessman, was 61 years old when he succumbed to the disease.

He had been undergoing cancer treatment for a year and had expressed his gratitude to well-wishers on his 61st birthday in January.

Collymore was a dedicated corporate leader who made significant contributions to Kenya's telecommunications sector during his tenure at Safaricom.

He was remembered by top leaders as a selfless and devoted leader who brought about great change to society.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, and other leaders paid tribute to Collymore, expressing their condolences to his family and friends.

Collymore's last wish, as expressed on social media, was to criminalize rape in Senegal.
