On July 1, 2019, the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Kenya, Siddharth Chatterjee, highlighted the potential of 3D printed houses to solve the country's housing crisis.

Speaking at a policy breakfast meeting, Chatterjee emphasized the affordability and speed of 3D printing technology, which could provide a solution to the shortage of affordable housing in Kenya.

"A basic 3D printed house will cost about $4000 (KSh404,000) and it takes 24 hours to complete," Chatterjee said, adding that the cost could decrease to $1000 (KSh101,000) when built on a large scale.

Chatterjee has discussed the matter with James Macharia, the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Housing and Urban Development, and expressed support for Kenya's Big Four agenda and Vision 2030.

The UN has allocated $1.9 billion (KSh190 billion) towards the implementation of development programs in Kenya, including universal healthcare, which Chatterjee praised as a significant step towards reducing poverty.
