July 1, 2019, Nairobi — Safaricom has announced the passing of its Chief Executive Officer, Bob Collymore, who died at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Collymore had been receiving treatment for Acute Myloid Leukemia (AML) at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, having previously sought treatment in the United Kingdom in October 2017.
"It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO Safaricom which occurred at his home," said Nicholas Nganga, the company's Board Chairman, in a statement.
Collymore leaves behind a wife and four children, and the Safaricom Board has extended its condolences to his family, staff, partners, and the nation at large.
