Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore Passes Away at 61 After Battling Leukemia

July 1, 2019, marked a somber day for Kenyans as news of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore's passing spread.

Collymore had been battling leukemia since 2017 and had been receiving treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in the days leading up to his death.

President Uhuru Kenyatta paid tribute to the late CEO in a heartfelt message, saying:

"It is with deep sadness that I have this morning received news of the death of Safaricom CEO Mr. Bob Collymore after years of battling cancer. As a country, we’ve lost a distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national wellbeing will be missed."

Collymore is survived by his wife and four children.
