Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore has left an indelible mark on the Kenyan corporate scene, but sadly, his life has come to an end.
On July 1, 2019, Bob Collymore passed away at his home after a long battle with cancer, which he had been fighting since his diagnosis with Acute Leukemia in 2018.
Collymore had traveled to the UK for treatment in October 2018 and returned to Kenya in July of the same year, but unfortunately, his condition worsened a few weeks ago.
He is survived by his widow, Wambui Kamiru, and four children.
Safaricom chairman Nicholas Nganga confirmed the news of Collymore's passing, saying, 'It’s with deep sorrow that we announce the passing away of Robert (Bob) William Collymore CEO of Safaricom. PLC, which occurred at his home in the morning of July, 1 2019.'
Reactions from social media poured in, with President Uhuru Kenyatta saying, 'It is with deep sadness that I have this morning received news of the death of Safaricom CEO Mr Bob Collymore after years of battling cancer. As a country, we’ve lost a distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national well-being will be missed.'
