On June 30, 2021, a dramatic incident unfolded at a high-profile meeting between the Council of Governors and the National Development Implementation and Communication cabinet committee, chaired by CS Fred Matiang'i.

Former Wajir Governor Mohammed Abdi Mohamud attempted to gatecrash the meeting, introducing himself as the Wajir Governor, despite being impeached on April 27, 2021, over allegations of flouting the County Government Act, Public Procurement Act, and Asset Disposal Act.

Abdi's actions caused confusion among the organizers, who struggled to find a suitable seat for him at the conference table.

As the situation escalated, police officers were called in to escort Abdi out of the meeting.

Abdi's impeachment was the result of a special Senate committee's recommendation, which was formed to investigate allegations of gross violation of the Constitution, County Governments Act, Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, and the Public Finance Management Act.
