On June 29, 2021, Lawyer Cliff Ombeta announced his intention to run for the Bonchari parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election. He will be vying on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party ticket, which is linked to Deputy President William Ruto.

Notably, Ombeta had previously thrown his support behind the then-UDA candidate Teresa Bitutu in the May 16 Bonchari by-election. However, Bitutu lost the contest to ODM’s Pavel Oimeke.

Speaking at the launch of a UDA Party office in Suneka Town, Nyamira County, Ombeta declared, “I am ready for the [Bonchari parliamentary] battle.”
