Deputy President William Ruto has been at the center of a plot to assassinate him, according to an anonymous letter that has sparked a police investigation.
On May 30th, an anonymous letter was sent to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), claiming that some leaders from Mt. Kenya, including four Cabinet Secretaries, were holding secret meetings at La Mada Hotel along Thika Road to plan Ruto's assassination.
Investigations have reportedly linked the mysterious letter to two people who work for Ruto, specifically two aides attached to his communication team.
According to Sunday Nation, investigators believe the two aides authored and circulated the fake document, which was allegedly drafted and printed at a cyber cafe located along Langata Road in Nairobi.
On Monday, Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya, Joe Mucheru, Sicily Kariuki, and James Macharia were summoned at the DCI over the letter, which claimed that the four were part of a group that had been meeting at the top hotel to scheme Ruto's death.
DCI George Kinoti declined to comment on the matter, stating that investigations to establish the authenticity of the letter were still ongoing.
“Investigations are still ongoing. I can’t say anything that can jeopardize them,” Kinoti said.
