On June 30, 2019, Treasury Secretary Henry Rotich appeared before the Finance and National Planning Committee to discuss the status of the lifestyle audit ordered by President Kenyatta in June 2018.

Rotich explained that the lifestyle audit was beyond the Treasury's control and that only the team responsible for the exercise could provide answers to the committee's questions.

He suggested that Parliament summon State House officials and the multi-agency team to clarify the reasons behind the failed lifestyle audit.

Rotich's comments came as the committee was investigating reports that tens of suspended heads of procurement and accounts continued to draw salaries without working, one year into the exercise.

President Kenyatta had ordered the lifestyle audit to tackle graft, and the lie-detector tests were supposed to be completed before the start of the financial year on July 1, 2018.

Finance and National Planning Committee Chairman Joseph Limo said the committee would consult and make appropriate directions after Rotich's appearance.
