London Mother Stabbed to Death, Baby in Critical Condition

On June 29, 2019, a devastating incident shook the streets of London when a 26-year-old woman, Kelly Mary Fauvrelle, was stabbed to death in her home in Thornton Heath, south London.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the woman was approximately eight months' pregnant and suffered fatal stab wounds in the attack. Despite the efforts of paramedics, she died inside the property at about 3:30 a.m.

Her baby, whose gender has yet to be revealed, was delivered in an emergency procedure and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody. A 37-year-old man was initially arrested but released under investigation pending further inquiries.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed his condolences, stating, 'Violence against women has no place in our city, and horrific murders in the home like this show the scale of the problem we face.' He also tweeted, 'My heart goes out to this innocent child, and to the mother they have so tragically lost.'

Knife crime has become a national crisis in the UK, with police recording 40,577 offenses involving a knife or sharp instrument last year, a 10,000 increase from 2011.
