On June 28, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted a joint operation in Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Kakamega counties, leading to the recovery of three stolen firearms and several rounds of ammunition.
According to the police, the operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects: Fredrick Khamisi Shivanda (39), Josphat Hinga Kinyanjui (47), and Stephen Njoroge Mwangi.
The main suspect, Mr. Khamisi, was arrested first and led the detectives to an unoccupied house where one G3 rifle and 20 rounds of ammunition had been buried.
Further investigations led to the recovery of another G3 rifle, which had been buried in a farm.
The suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting arraignment, while the recovered rifles and ammunition are being kept as exhibits.
The stolen firearms were believed to have been taken from the Kamorwon Administration police post in Nandi South on April 17, 2019, while the police on duty were watching a football match.
