On June 30, 2019, police acting on a tip-off raided an illegal alcohol brewing plant in Dandora, Nairobi, leading to the arrest of eight individuals.
According to reports, the plant owner had fled and switched off his phone, leaving the workers to face the consequences.
During the raid, officers found 181 boxes of Star spirit, each containing 20 250ml bottles, as well as 42 boxes of Blue Ice vodka, Kenya Revenue Authority stickers, and assorted empty plastic bottles.
The arrested suspects include Stephen Wambugu, David Chui, Salome Wanjiru, Wilikister Kemunto, John Mwangi, Daniel Maigwa, Zacharia Macharia, and Peter Maina.
The Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU) sleuths made the arrests, and the plant owner remains at large.
