On June 30, 2019, Raila Odinga, the leader of the ODM party, was warmly received in Elgeyo Marakwet, a county considered a stronghold of Deputy President William Ruto.

Elgeyo Marakwet is one of the key counties in the Rift Valley region, a stronghold of Deputy President William Ruto, who has been at the center of intense political rivalry in recent years.

During his visit, Raila Odinga was received by Governor Alex Tolgos, who praised the visit and the agreements between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying they had brought peace and stability to the region.

"We welcome Raila Odinga in Elgeyo Marakwet and Chebara. We are happy with the peace and stability brought by the salutations of peace by Uhuru and Raila," Governor Tolgos said.

Senator James Orengo, Millie Odhiambo, and Joshua Kutuny, a vocal critic of Ruto within Jubilee, were among the leaders who accompanied Raila during his visit.

Joshua Kutuny, a member of the Kieleweke faction, is seen as a key player in the efforts to oust Ruto from power.

During his visit, Raila Odinga was also received by top security officials in the county, led by County Commissioner Amed Omar.

William Ruto has been at the center of intense political rivalry in recent years, and Elgeyo Marakwet is considered one of his strongholds.
