On 30 June 2019, police in Nandi County made a significant breakthrough in their investigation into the theft of G3 firearms from the Kamorwon AP Post. The officers on duty had left the camp to watch a UEFA Champions League match, only to return and discover that the room of the officer-in-charge, which also serves as an armoury, was open.
According to the DCI, the thieves had broken into the steel box, in which firearms are kept, and made away with three G3 rifles and an unknown number of bullets. However, the detectives had been hot on their heels, and after a thorough investigation, they were able to track down the suspects.
Four suspects, including Fredrick Khamisi, Gladys Chao, Josphat Kinyanjui, and Stephen Njoroge, were arrested and taken into custody. The suspects led the detectives to an unoccupied house in Langas, where a gun and bullets were found. Two other guns were recovered from a farm in Langas, bringing the total number of recovered rifles to five.
The recovered rifles and bullets will be used as evidence during the arraignment of the suspects. The incident highlights the need for police officers to remain vigilant and take their duties seriously, even during leisure time.
