Harambee Stars Coach Migne: We Have Nothing to Lose Against Senegal ¶
June 30, 2019
Harambee Stars head coach Sebastian Migne has expressed confidence in his team's chances ahead of the crucial match against Senegal, stating that they have nothing to lose.
Migne's comments come as the team prepares to face Africa's top-ranked team in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
According to Migne, his team has a fully fit squad and is ready to take on the challenge posed by Senegal, who are considered overwhelming favorites to win the match.
"It's already very difficult to take care of the mentality of our players, so I can only talk about my team; I cannot judge the mentality of the Senegalese players," Migne said.
He added that Senegal's players are at the same level as other top teams in Africa, including Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Egypt, and that his team will have to work hard to win the match.
"Technically they are very good, and they also have one of the best players in Sadio Mane, so we know it's going to be difficult, so for us we're going to compete against this kind of team and it's going to be a pleasure," Migne said.
Box-to-box midfielder Johanna Omolo, who scored Kenya's second goal in the 3-2 victory over Tanzania, also weighed in on the team's chances.
"It's true, it has been long since we've been here at the AFCON, 15 years, so it's not just the first time for me but for everyone in the team, I'm very happy to be here and everything is possible and we're excited for tomorrow," Omollo said.
Senegal's head coach Aliou Cisse, however, has warned his team against underestimating Harambee Stars, saying that they will not make sweeping changes to their lineup.
"I realised that in the first 25 minutes of the game against Algeria we played well, according to plan, but Algeria scored a goal and managed to contain us," Cisse said.
He added that his team will focus on their own game and not get distracted by Harambee Stars' comments.
"There will be no revolution in the team. I believe in continuity. Regarding the Kenyan coach who was talking about the Senegalese players' mentality, they just have to mind their own business," Cisse said.
