On June 27, 2019, Kenya's Harambee Stars secured a memorable 3-2 win over Taifa Stars in a group stage match of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo. However, a senior Tanzanian government official has made shocking claims that Kenya employed 'dirty tricks' to achieve this victory.

According to MwanaSpoti, a sister publication to Nairobi News, Paul Makonda, the regional commissioner for Dar es Salaam, has accused Kenya of using binu chafu (dirty tricks) to register the win. Makonda, however, failed to provide any evidence to support his claims.

Kenya's comeback win was marked by a brace from man-of-the-match Michael Olunga, who scored crucial goals to help his team overcome Tanzania's initial lead. The match saw Tanzania receive two yellow cards, while Kenya earned three yellow cards for fouls and time wasting.

Notably, Makonda has also apologized to President John Magufuli for the team's loss, which led to their exit from the tournament. He has promised that Taifa Stars will return to the next edition of the tournament in two years' time as a stronger and improved side.
