On April 17, 2019, a group of thieves stole three G3 rifles from the Kamorwon Administration Police post in Nandi South while the police officers on duty watched a football match in the nearby trading centre.

Fast forward to June 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted an operation across Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Kakamega counties, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Fredrick Khamisi Shivanda (39), Josphat Hinga Kinyanjui (47), and Stephen Njoroge Mwangi (44).

According to the DCI, Mr. Shivanda, the prime suspect, led the detectives to 47-year-old Gladys Chao, who in turn led them to an unoccupied house where one of the stolen rifles and 20 rounds of ammunition had been buried.

Further investigations led the officers to the other two suspects, who were also arrested and another G3 rifle buried on a farm recovered.

The suspects are currently being held pending arraignment, with the rifles and ammunition being kept as exhibits.

On June 29, 2019, the DCI tweeted about the recovery of the stolen firearms, stating, 'THREE Firearms & several ammunitions that were stolen from @APSKenya Camp in Nandi South were last night recovered following an intelligence-based operation led by @DCI_Kenya Detectives in Uasin Gishu, Nandi & Kakamega Counties. The main suspect; Fredrick Khamisi Shivanda arrested.'
