It's been years since the female rap wars of 2016 dominated the local music scene, but the memory of that time still lingers. The beef between rappers Njeri and Femi One, which started with Njeri's song No King, was just the beginning of a series of diss tracks that left fans eagerly waiting for the next move.
On June 30, 2016, Njeri released No King, a song that took aim at several Kenyan artists, including Femi One, who was then known as the self-proclaimed rap queen. The diss track ridiculed Femi's song Brikicho, which had failed to gain traction.
Femi One did not take the insults lying down. She responded with a song titled Pilau Njeri, which not only ridiculed Njeri but also took shots at other Kenyan female rappers, cementing her status as the baddest femcee.
The beef did not end there. Njeri released another diss track, Conoka (Femiplan), and was soon joined by other female rappers, including Kyki and Noti Flow, who weighed in with their own songs, Kuku Mwitu and Forehead, respectively.
The female rap wars brought the local rap scene to life, with fans eagerly waiting for the next diss track to drop. It was a time when the spotlight was on the female rappers, and they did not disappoint. Today, it's hard not to imagine how things would be like if we had the female rap wars today.
