Former Chelsea star Gary Cahill could be handed a chance to play Premier League football next season after emerging as a top transfer target for Arsenal.
The 33-year-old central defender has been without a club since failing to secure a contract extension with Chelsea, where he spent over seven years.
According to reports, Arsenal are planning to make a surprise move for Cahill, who was part of the Blues team that won the Europa League last month by defeating Arsenal 4-1 in Azerbaijan.
However, the north Londoners are not the only club interested in signing the experienced defender, with Aston Villa, West Ham, and Crystal Palace also reportedly eyeing him.
While the opportunity of regular first-team football could prove key in Cahill's decision, Villa Park may offer him the chance to secure a spot in the starting lineup.
As the transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Cahill will choose to stay in the capital or explore other options.
